Owls Alternate Logo

The Rice Owls have a long and storied history when it comes to their alternate logos. The school’s first unofficial logo was created in the 1940s, featuring an owl perched atop a shield with “Rice University” written across it. This logo was used until the 1970s when an updated version of the same design was released.

In 1996, Rice introduced its first official alternate logo – a simple image of an owl head with wings spread wide on either side and large eyes staring out from beneath them. This iconic image has since become synonymous with Rice athletics and is featured prominently on many university-branded items such as t-shirts, hats, mugs, and more!

In 2011 another new Owl mark made its debut: this one featured two owls facing each other inside a circle that contained three stars at different points around its circumference; these stars represented Houston (the city where Rice is located), Texas (the state in which it resides) & America (as part of our nation). Since then this design has been tweaked slightly but still remains popular among fans today!

In 2016 yet another alternative logo for the Owls emerged – this time featuring two owlets standing side by side inside what appears to be either clouds or feathers depending upon your interpretation; they are also surrounded by several small stars that represent both Houston & Texas once again while providing some additional visual interest as well!

All throughout its history, Rice's various logos have served not only as symbols for athletic teams but also representations of pride within its student body. Whether you're rooting for football or basketball games, cheering on track meets or simply wearing apparel adorned with any one of these designs - there's no denying that every single one carries special significance!
