Broncos Alternate Logo

Boise State Broncos fans have long been passionate about their team and its iconic blue turf. But, the Boise State logo has changed over the years as well. From a simple B to an elaborate Bronco head, there’s no doubt that the school’s mascot is one of college football's most recognizable symbols.

The first official Bronco logo was introduced in 1936 when Boise Junior College (BJC) became Idaho's third public college and adopted "Broncos" as its name and mascot. The original design featured a bold capital letter “B” outlined in orange with two small horse heads on either side of it – symbolizing strength, power, speed, and agility – all qualities associated with broncos! This classic look would remain unchanged until 1976 when a more modernized version was created by artist Bill Ritchie for use at both BJC & later Boise State University (BSU).

In 1985 another update was made to incorporate more detail into the existing design which included details such as eyes & nostrils on each side of the “B". However this look only lasted five years before being replaced by what many consider today to be one of college sports' most iconic logos - The Bronco Head Logo! It features an aggressive-looking bronc busting out from behind an outline shaped like Idaho state surrounded by stars representing each county within it; plus additional detailing including reins around his neck & horns atop his head for added effect!

This new take on traditional western imagery proved so popular that it remains virtually unchanged since 1990 even after becoming part of NCAA Division I-A athletics in 1996 following BSU's move up from Division II status earlier that same year. In fact, this very same logo can still be seen proudly displayed throughout Albertsons Stadium during home games or worn proudly across town while cheering your favorite team onto victory every Saturday afternoon during fall season playtime here at beautiful downtown Boise City USA!
