Colonels Wordmark Logo

The Eastern Kentucky Colonels have a long and proud history, and their iconic wordmark logo is an important part of that. The school’s original wordmark was created in the mid-1920s when EKU was still known as Eastern Kentucky State Normal School. It featured a simple serif font with “Eastern Kentucky” written out in full at the top of the logo, followed by “Colonels” beneath it.

Over time, this classic design has undergone several minor changes to keep up with trends while remaining true to its roots. In the 1950s, for example, designers removed some of the flourishes from around each letter to give it a more modern look without sacrificing any of its traditional charm or character.

In 1984 came another significant change: The words were rearranged so that “Colonels” now appeared above “Eastern Kentucky." This update also saw bolder lines being used throughout and helped make way for even more updates over time—including adding color! Nowadays you can find versions featuring both red and blue alongside white text on various merchandise items like t-shirts or hats bearing this timeless symbol representing EKU pride everywhere you go!
