Cardinals Alternate Logo

The Louisville Cardinals have had a long and storied history of having an alternate logo. The first version of the alternate logo was introduced in 1983 when the university adopted its current colors of red and black. This original design featured a sizeable cardinal head with wings spread wide on either side, set against a white background with red lettering underneath "Cardinals." Since then, this design has been several iterations to reflect changes in style and technology.

In 2000, Louisville released its second iteration, which featured more detail than before, and updated colors that matched those used by other teams within the Big East Conference. This included adding some yellow accents to give it more depth while keeping true to its classic look. Additionally, they added two stars above the cardinal's head, representing their two NCAA basketball championships won during this decade (1980 & 1986).

Finally, in 2020, they unveiled their latest update, which features even further refinements such as sharper lines and updated font type for better readability across all platforms, including digital media outlets like Twitter or Instagram, where these logos are commonly seen today. Overall this new design is meant to provide fans everywhere with an iconic symbol associated with Cardinal athletics and the University pride itself!
