Monarchs Alternate Logo
The Old Dominion Monarchs have had a long and storied history in NCAA athletics, and that includes their use of alternate logos. From the classic to the modern, these logos have been used to represent the school’s athletic program with pride. Let’s take a look at some of the most iconic Old Dominion Monarchs' alternate logo designs throughout its history!
One of the earliest examples was introduced in 2002 when ODU began using an updated version of its original crest-style logo from 1976. This new design featured a navy blue shield with gold accents along with two crossed swords behind it – one white and one black – representing both sides of Monarch athletics: academics and competition. The words “Old Dominion University” were also included above this image for added effect, making it an instantly recognizable symbol for fans everywhere!
Another popular design came about in 2006 when ODU adopted what is now known as “the King Neptune Logo." This rendition featured King Neptune himself standing atop his trident while wearing royal regalia; he was surrounded by waves crashing against rocks beneath him while holding a golden crown aloft above his head (representing success). Many believe this logo has become synonymous with Monarch pride due to its striking imagery that captures both strength & power as well as loyalty & respect - something every fan can appreciate!
Finally, we come to perhaps one of the most beloved symbols associated with Old Dominion - their current primary mascot/logo featuring Big Blue (a large blue lion). Introduced back in 2012 after much anticipation from students & alumni alike; Big Blue quickly became an instant hit thanks largely due to his bold colors & intimidating stance which perfectly reflect those same qualities found within each student-athlete who proudly wears ODU's colors on game day(s)!
All three versions are still widely recognized today among fans around campus or beyond; they serve not only as visual reminders but also act as symbolic representations for all those connected through sport at Old Dominion University over many generations past present or future… Go, Monarchs!!
