Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles have a long history of success in NCAA athletics, and their wordmark logo is an integral part of that legacy. The iconic design has been around since the school’s inception in 1985 when it was adopted as the official logo for all athletic teams.

The original version featured two eagles facing each other with wings spread wide and talons outstretched. This symbolized strength and courage—two qualities that remain at the heart of Southern Indiana Athletics today. Over time, minor modifications were made to this classic design such as adding text underneath or changing colors to reflect different sports programs within SIU.

In 2004, however, a major change occurred when an updated version was introduced featuring just one eagle perched atop a shield-like background with “Southern Indiana University” written across it in bold letters above three stars representing past successes on the field (or court). This new look gave SIU athletics more modern appeal while still staying true to its roots by incorporating elements from both previous logos into one cohesive image—a testament to how far they had come since first joining Division I play nearly 20 years prior!

Since then there have been small tweaks here & there but overall this same basic concept remains intact; showing off pride & passion for all things related to Southern Indiana Sports! It's become synonymous not only with excellence but also a tradition that makes it so special - something truly unique amongst any other university program out there today!
