Bulldogs Alternate Logo
The Drake Bulldogs have a long and proud history as one of the most successful NCAA teams in the country. As such, they've had several alternate logos over the years that reflect their commitment to excellence. In this blog post, we'll take a look at some of these iconic designs and discuss how they came to be part of Drake's identity.
Drake's first alternate logo was created in 1975 when then-athletic director Jody Adams decided to update their existing bulldog mascot design with an eye-catching new look for its 100th anniversary season. The result was an instantly recognizable silhouette featuring a muscular bulldog wearing sunglasses and surrounded by stars – representing both successes on the field as well as national recognition of it! This logo would go on to become synonymous with Drake athletics for decades after its introduction, appearing everywhere from jerseys and hats to posters and advertisements throughout campus life until 2002 when it was retired in favor of something more modernized yet still true-to-form: A “fierce” bulldog head sporting two crossed basketballs beneath his chin (a nod towards both men’s & women’s programs).
While this version is no longer used today due largely in part because its bold colors clashed too much with other school symbols around campus; It remains popular amongst alumni who fondly remember what many consider “the good ol' days" before flashy uniforms took precedence over classic looks like those found here! And while there have been several subsequent attempts at creating another memorable emblem since then (including one depicting three interlocking D's), none has come close to capturing hearts quite like that original mid-'70s design did so many years ago - proving just how timeless great artwork can truly be!
