Hokies Alternate Logo
The Virginia Tech Hokies have a long and storied history of alternate logos. The first logo used by the school dates back to 1896 when it was known as the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College. This logo featured an orange-and-maroon shield with two crossed swords underneath it, symbolizing strength and courage. Since then, the school has gone through several iterations of its alternate logos to keep up with changing times while still maintaining its traditional roots.
In 1976, Virginia Tech introduced a new version of its original logo that featured an orange “V” inside a maroon circle surrounded by stars representing each branch of service within the Commonwealth’s military forces at that time: Army (red star), Navy (blue star), Air Force (white star), Marines Corps (golden yellow). The current version features this same design but includes more modern touches such as bolder lines on both sides; replacing all five stars with one larger gold one; adding white outlines around all elements; moving some elements closer together for better balance; enlarging some font sizes for more significant impact and visibility from across distances etc., making sure that even today's viewers don't miss out on any details!
Finally, in 2018 another big change came about when they released their newest secondary mark, which is much simpler than previous versions yet still retains many classic elements like colors & fonts from older designs along with updated graphics like flames & wings, giving it a fresh look & feel overall . This new design reflects the team's commitment to innovation excellence while preserving traditional values held dear since day 1 . Overall, these various changes over the years show how important identity is to them, ensuring fans will always recognize their beloved Hokies no matter their form or shape!
