Waves Alternate Logo

The Pepperdine Waves have a long and storied history, dating back to the establishment of the school in 1937. Over the years, they’ve had several different logos that represent their athletic teams. The most recent logo is an updated version of one used from 1979-2010; however, there are some interesting stories behind each of these designs that make them unique and memorable for Pepperdine fans everywhere.

The first logo was created when the university adopted its new nickname “Waves” in 1939 after it merged with another college called George Pepperdine College (hence “Pepperdine”). This design featured a crest with two dolphins on either side and waves crashing against rocks at its base – symbolizing strength through adversity. It remained unchanged until 1959 when it was slightly modified to include more detail around the edges as well as colors representing those found within Malibu's coastal waters — blue for sky/ocean; green for land/mountains; yellow-orange sunsets over cliffsides overlooking Pacific Ocean views!

In the 1970s, this same concept underwent significant changes once again — this time featuring just one dolphin instead of two along with additional details such as stars & stripes surrounding the perimeter while also adding "PEPPERDINE" lettering below the graphic itself - all helping give off even stronger sense pride & spirit associated w/school's athletics program. By the early 2000s though things started getting tweaked yet again so by 2010 brand new look emerged: now featuring three main elements including a white crest shape containing WAVES wordmark inside + a navy blue stripe running underneath a bold gold outline which gave the whole thing much sharper modern feel compared previous iterations. Most recently, however, the team decided to go back original double dolphin design albeit with slight updates here and there like the addition of orange color outlining crests making sure everyone knew exactly where their allegiances lay whenever stepped onto the field competition!

Overall, no matter what iteration you may come across - whether old or new - all versions carry strong symbolism behind them which makes perfect representation not only of the University but also the entire city of Malibu which proudly supports every single wave out there!
