Lions Wordmark Logo
Since its inception in 1911, the Loyola Marymount Lions have been a prominent part of NCAA athletics. The school's iconic wordmark logo has become synonymous with excellence and tradition throughout the years. It is no surprise that this storied program continues to be one of the most successful teams in college sports today.
The original design for the Loyola Marymount Lions wordmark was created by Sister Rose O’Connor, a nun at Mount St. Mary’s College where LMU was founded in 1911 as Los Angeles College for Women (LACW). Her striking design featured two lions facing each other on either side of an ornate letter “M” which stood for “Marymount." This classic logo would remain unchanged until 1965 when it underwent some minor modifications to better reflect modern times and trends while still maintaining its core elements.
In 1984, following another round of revisions, came what we know today as "the official" version: two bold-faced lions flanking an updated lettering style featuring three lines reading "LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY". This new look has gone through several refinements over time but remained largely untouched since then - making it one of college sports' most recognizable logos ever!
The current version retains much from Sister Rose O'Connor's original vision while also reflecting changes made throughout history; from updating font styles to including additional text such as university name or location - all without sacrificing any bit of character or charm that makes this mark truly unique among collegiate programs around America! As LMU enters into its second century representing excellence both on and off the field – their beloved lion emblem will continue standing strong alongside them every step along the way!
