Spartans Alternate Logo
The Michigan State Spartans have a long and storied history, and their logo has been an integral part of that story. The Spartan helmet is one of the most iconic logos in college sports, but it wasn’t always this way. Over the years, the school has experimented with different alternate logos to represent its athletics program.
In 2013, Michigan State debuted its first official alternate logo: a modernized version of Sparty wearing sunglasses while holding up three fingers in a “V” formation — signifying victory. This new look was meant to help bridge the gap between traditional Spartan fans who love their classic green-and-white colors and younger fans looking for something more contemporary and edgy. In addition to being used on apparel such as hats or t-shirts, this logo also appears on various merchandise like mugs or keychains sold at MSU stores across campus.
Since then, the university unveiled several other variations of Sparty throughout 2014 featuring him doing activities such as skateboarding or snowboarding—allowing students to show off their unique style while still representing MSU pride. While these designs may not be quite as recognizable as the original helmet design, they are still popular among Spartans everywhere who want another way to express themselves through fashion without sacrificing loyalty towards their alma mater.
