Aztecs Alternate Logo
The San Diego State Aztecs have been a proud member of the NCAA since 1921, and their logo has evolved over time to reflect their rich history. The current logo features an interlocking “S” and “D” in red and black, but there have been several alternate logos used throughout the years. Here is a look at some of the most popular ones:
1) The first alternate logo was introduced in 1967 as part of SDSU's 50th-anniversary celebration. It featured an illustration of Montezuma II – one of the last rulers from Mexico's Aztec Empire – wearing traditional headgear with feathers. This design was used until 1976 when it gave way to another version featuring two crossed spears above his face instead.
2) In 1985, SDSU unveiled its second official mascot: Monty Montezuma (a cartoon character that wears similar clothing). His likeness was then added to various merchandise including t-shirts and hats along with this new secondary logo which had him holding up two swords while standing atop a mountain peak surrounded by clouds on both sides; this design lasted until 1997 when too got replaced by something else entirely different…
3) In 1998, SDSU decided to go for a more modern look for its third alternate emblem which featured just three shapes overlapping each other (an oval containing a triangle inside another circle); all three were colored either red or black depending on what product they appeared on such as mugs or keychains, etc., but unfortunately this only stayed around till 2006 before being retired once again…
4) Finally we come full circle back to where started off with our fourth alternative badge -this time featuring stylized lettering spelling out "AZTECS" across four lines–which has remained unchanged since then despite numerous tweaks made here and there like changing colors schemes adding outlines etc.; making sure everyone knows who they're rooting for no matter what!
