Privateers Primary Logo
Today we’re looking back at the history of the New Orleans Privateers' primary logo in the NCAA. The Privateers are an intercollegiate athletic program that competes in NCAA Division I and is based out of the University of New Orleans.
The first iteration of their logo was introduced when they joined the Sun Belt Conference in 1991. It featured a white “NOP” lettering with two crossed swords behind it on a navy blue background. This design remained until 1997, when it was replaced by another version that included an updated font for all three letters as well as adding stars to either side to represent Louisiana's state flag colors – red, white, and blue – along with gold accents around each letter for some extra flair!
In 2009, UNO unveiled its current primary logo featuring just one sword crossed over itself atop an anchor, representing strength and stability, which has been synonymous with this university since its inception in 1958! This new mark also includes a bolder typeface while maintaining those same patriotic colors from previous versions - ensuring everyone knows exactly who these fierce competitors are no matter where they go or what sport they play!
Overall, UNO's logos have evolved but always remain true to their core values: commitment to excellence on and off the field while proudly representing our great city every step! We hope you enjoyed learning how far this school has come since joining NCAA Division I almost 30 years ago - Go Privateers!!
