Crusaders Wordmark Logo
The Holy Cross Crusaders have a long and storied history in NCAA athletics. As one of the oldest collegiate athletic programs in the nation, they’ve been competing since 1876. The iconic Crusader logo has become synonymous with excellence over the years, and its evolution is an interesting story worth exploring.
The original Crusader logo was designed by then-athletic director Frank Cavanaugh back in 1925 as part of a larger rebranding effort for Holy Cross Athletics at that time. It featured two crossed swords behind a shield with three crosses on it – representing faith, loyalty, and courage – all set against an orange background to represent their school colors at that time (which were later changed to purple). This design would remain unchanged until 1984 when it was slightly tweaked to give it more modern appeal while still staying true to its roots; this version included sharper edges for each element along with some minor color changes like adding blue accents around the shield itself as well as shifting from orange backgrounds towards purple ones instead.
Today’s iteration of the classic Crusader wordmark has remained largely unchanged since then but continues to be updated every now and again – most recently during 2017 when they released their latest version which includes bolder lines on both sides of each sword along with brighter colors throughout so that fans can recognize them even from far away! This new look also pays homage back to their original design by keeping many elements intact such as those three crosses across the top or bottom portion depending upon how you view them too which signify faith loyalty & courage respectively - something very important within college sports culture today just like before!
Overall, there's no denying just how much history lies behind this beloved symbol - making sure everyone knows who exactly are these brave warriors always ready to fight another day: The Holy Cross Crusaders!
