Cyclones Primary Logo
The Iowa State Cyclones have a long and storied history, dating back to their first game in 1892. The primary logo for the team has gone through several iterations over the years, each one reflecting the evolution of both college athletics and design trends.
The earliest version of this logo featured an interlocking “IS” with a cardinal bird perched atop it. This remained largely unchanged until 1971 when it was replaced by a more modernized look featuring two lines forming an arrowhead shape that pointed downward towards an oversized “I” in yellow-orange lettering on top of it. In 1984, the current logo was adopted: A stylized Cyclone symbol with red lightning bolts emanating from its center encircled by bold white text reading "Iowa State" above and "Cyclones" below.
This latest iteration is still used today as part of all official university branding materials including apparel, signage at sporting events, or even on special edition coins commemorating athletic achievements like bowl games or conference championship wins! It's been updated slightly over time but remains true to its roots while capturing what makes Iowa State such a beloved institution among fans across America - their spirit for competition combined with strong school pride!
