Seminoles Wordmark Logo
The Florida State Seminoles have a long and storied history of athletics, and their wordmark logo is no exception. The iconic symbol has been around since the 1950s when an FSU student first developed it as part of a contest to create an official school logo. Since then, the logo has undergone several changes over time in order to reflect changing trends in design while still maintaining its original essence.
The most recent version of the wordmark was unveiled at a ceremony held on May 1st, 2017, during which university president John Thrasher praised those involved for creating “a bold new look that reflects our proud traditions.” This latest iteration features thicker lettering with sharper edges than previous versions and incorporates two shades of garnet - one for each half - along with gold accents throughout, all elements which serve to further emphasize FSU’s commitment to excellence both on and off the field/court/etc. Additionally, this new design also includes subtle nods towards traditional Seminole imagery, such as feathers within some letters making it truly unique amongst collegiate logos nationwide.
Ultimately, through its various iterations over time (including today's modern version), Florida State University's wordmark serves not only as an aesthetically pleasing representation but also captures much more: namely pride in heritage & tradition alongside ambition & innovation, traits that are embodied by countless students who call themselves 'Seminoles.' As such, this timeless symbol will continue inspiring future generations well into eternity!
