The Herd Alternate Logo
The Marshall Thundering Herd is a college football team that has been around since 1895. Over the years, they have had several different logos and alternate logos to represent their school spirit. Today we will take a look at the history of these various designs and how they have evolved over time.
The original logo for The Thundering Herd was created in 1927 when it first joined the NCAA as an independent program. It featured two crossed lightning bolts with “Marshall” written across them in all caps font style, along with “Thundering Herd” written underneath in script lettering – both on a green background which represented school colors at that time (green & white). This design remained unchanged until 1972 when it was updated to feature two additional elements: an outline of West Virginia (the state where Marshall University is located) and its mascot, Marco – a charging bison wearing sunglasses!
In 2013, after almost 40 years without any changes being made to their logo or alternate logos; The Thundering Herd decided it was finally time for something new! They unveiled three brand-new designs featuring modernized versions of some classic elements from past iterations such as Marco still present but now wearing his signature aviator sunglasses instead; plus bolder font styles & brighter color palettes including shades of green & yellow/gold which are now used by many schools today as part of their official branding identity.
These new design alternatives were met with mixed reviews from fans who either loved or hated them depending on personal preference but ultimately proved popular enough among students & alumni alike so much so that even today these same 3 variations remain amongst some other more recent additions like those seen during March Madness tournaments held annually by NCAA Division I teams across America each year since 2014!
Overall while there may be plenty of debate about what constitutes good taste when designing any type of collegiate sports team's graphics one thing remains clear: no matter what form it taken - whether old or new - Marshall's iconic thunderbolt symbol has stood strong throughout decades worth change proving itself worthy representation not only university's proud athletic heritage but also entire state West Virginia too!
