Panthers Alternate Logo
Sports fans in Wisconsin have long been familiar with the Milwaukee Panthers, but few may know about their alternate logos throughout the years. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's athletic teams have had several different looks since they began competing in NCAA Division I athletics in 1990. This blog post will examine some of those past designs and explore how they evolved.
The first logo for the Milwaukee Panthers was introduced during their inaugural season and featured an orange panther headset against a navy blue backdrop with white trimming around it. This classic design stayed relatively unchanged until 1998 when UWM decided to switch up its visual identity by introducing an updated version featuring more details on both sides of the Panther’s face and yellow accents throughout its mane and eyes to give it more depth and character than before.
In 2003, UWM unveiled another new logo, which featured two interlocking "M"s that were meant to represent both Milwaukee (the city) and Marquette (the university). This design was used until 2011, when yet another update came out that included an abstracted version of their original panther mascot set against either black or gold backgrounds, depending on what sport you were watching them play at any given time!
Finally, 2014 saw yet another redesign come out featuring three different versions: one for men’s sports teams (featuring just the head), one for women’s sports teams (with the entire body) & finally, one general use logo that combined elements from both previous iterations into something unique! These latest designs are still being used today & continue to be popular amongst fans all across Wisconsin who proudly wear them whenever cheering on their beloved team!
