Norse Alternate Logo
Sports fans, rejoice! The Northern Kentucky Norse has a long history regarding alternate logos. From the original Norseman logo in 1972 to the modern-day “Norwegian” logo, there is plenty of history here for sports fans everywhere.
The first incarnation of the Norse alternate logo was introduced in 1972 as part of an effort by then-athletic director Bill Fenton to give a more traditional look and feel to what had become known as “The Big Blue” team. This version featured a Viking helmet with crossed swords above it, along with two large horns on either side of the helmet that were meant to represent strength and courage – characteristics that are still associated with Northern Kentucky today.
While this design has undergone minor changes over time (including color variations), its core elements remain unchanged even nearly 50 years later – making it one of the most recognizable logos among college athletics programs across America today!
In recent years, however, another alternative has gained momentum: The Norwegian Logo – which features an updated take on classic Viking imagery while incorporating modern design elements such as bold lines and bright colors into its overall aesthetic. This new symbol was created specifically for use during basketball games at BB&T Arena. Still, it can be found throughout campus now, too, from apparel items sold at NKU bookstore locations all around town to stickers being handed out during athletic events!
Regardless of your preferred version, both designs carry significant weight within our community here in northern Kentucky - so show your support by rocking whichever style best fits your tastes next time you're cheering on those beloved NKU teams!
