Cougars Wordmark Logo
The Charleston Cougars are a collegiate athletic team representing the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. The team is known for its competitive spirit and success in various sports, but it is also recognized for its iconic wordmark logo, which has become synonymous with the university. In this blog post, we will examine the history of the Charleston Cougars wordmark logo and how it has evolved over the years.
The original Charleston Cougars wordmark logo was introduced in the early 1980s and featured a simple yet bold design. It consisted of the word "Cougars" in all capital letters, with the letters "C" and "U" slightly larger than the rest. The classic serif font was used, giving the logo a traditional and timeless look. The wordmark was predominantly black with a white outline, making it stand out on any background.
In the late 1990s, the Charleston Cougars underwent a rebranding process, including redesigning their wordmark logo. The new logo featured a more modern and sleek design, with the word "Charleston" in all capital letters and "Cougars" in a smaller font below. The font used was sans-serif, giving the logo a more contemporary look. The color scheme was also updated, with the word "Charleston" in maroon and "Cougars" in white, creating a strong contrast.
In 2005, the Charleston Cougars joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), which brought another update to their wordmark logo. The new logo featured a more stylized font for the word "Charleston" and a bold, italicized font for "Cougars." The color scheme remained the same, but the logo was now in a shield shape, giving it a more official and professional look.
In 2012, the Charleston Cougars unveiled their current wordmark logo, a modernized version of the 2005 logo. The font for "Charleston" was updated to a bolder and more modern font, while "Cougars" remained in the same font but was enlarged and placed above "Charleston." The color scheme was also updated, with the word "Charleston" in a deep navy blue and "Cougars" in bright gold, creating a strong contrast and giving the logo a more vibrant look.
