Lions Primary Logo
The North Alabama Lions have a long and storied history, with their primary logo being one of the most recognizable symbols in college sports. The original design was created in 1971 by renowned graphic designer John McConnell, who also designed logos for several other universities such as Auburn University and the University of Tennessee.
McConnell's design featured a lion head with its mane forming an “N” to represent North Alabama. The colors used were blue, red, and white – all representing different aspects of the university: Blue represented loyalty; Red symbolized courage; while White stood for purity. This combination has become synonymous with UNA athletics ever since it first appeared on uniforms back in 1972.
Over time, minor changes have been made to the logo but its core elements remain unchanged – making it instantly recognizable even after nearly 50 years since its creation! In recent years there has been discussion about creating an alternate version that would be more modern-looking yet still maintain ties to tradition by keeping some key features intact (such as color scheme). However, no official decision has been made at this point so we'll just have to wait and see what happens next!
For now, though we can look back fondly on our beloved Lion Head Logo which continues to serve us well year after year - truly embodying everything great about UNA Athletics!
