Matadors Wordmark Logo
For decades, the Cal State Northridge Matadors have proudly displayed their iconic wordmark logo. The logo is a representation of the university's commitment to excellence and has been an integral part of its identity since it first appeared in 1972.
The original design was created by CSUN alumnus Richard Heimann and featured a stylized “CSUN” with a mascot head above it. This version was used until 1979 when it underwent some minor modifications such as adding serifs to all letters, making them bolder, and changing the font size slightly.
In 1989, another redesign saw even more changes made including enlarging the “N” which now appears larger than other letters; adding thicker lines around each letter; creating more distinct shapes for each letter; adjusting colors from navy blue to royal blue (which is still used today). Additionally, that same year also saw an updated mascot image added along with additional details like stars on either side of him representing both academic excellence & athletic prowess respectively – something that remains true today!
The current version of this timeless classic debuted in 2009 after undergoing several small tweaks over time such as increasing line thicknesses again & refining certain elements like shadows & outlines while keeping the overall look intact so fans would recognize instantly what school they were supporting! It truly embodies everything great about being part of this amazing institution: pride, tradition & spirit - all rolled into one iconic symbol that every Matador can be proud to call their own!
