Rams Alternate Logo
Fordham University has a long and storied history, and the Fordham Rams have been an integral part of that story since their formation in 1882. Over the years, the university's athletic teams have gone through many changes to both their name and logo. Today, we're taking a look back at some of those alternate logos from throughout Fordham's history!
The first iteration of what would become known as "the Ram" was designed in 1925 by then-athletic director Frank Cavanaugh. This version featured a ram with its head facing forward on top of an oval shield containing two crossed swords beneath it. The design was used until 1962 when it underwent several minor modifications including removing one sword from the shield below and adding yellow trim around its edges for more visual appeal.
In 1964, another redesign took place which included changing up both the shape and colors associated with this logo; this time featuring a blue circle surrounding gold lettering reading “FORDHAM” while still keeping two crossed swords underneath it all along with some additional detailing added to make things pop even more than before!
In 1972 yet another change occurred when they decided to go away from using any sort of circular background altogether instead opting for just having three separate elements: The Ram itself (now facing left) atop two crossed swords—all within white outlines against either black or navy blue backgrounds depending on context/usage needs at any given time period afterward too!.
Finally though came one final update during 1997 where current-day variations are based on: A modernized version now featuring our beloved mascot looking straight ahead atop navy blue outlined circles containing golden colored letters spelling out “FORDHAM” above them respectively as well being further accented by red lines running across each side horizontally completing everything nicely overall!.
So there you have it, folks - four distinct eras spanning almost 100 years worth worthy of varying designs which ultimately culminated into what we know today as our official school emblem –– Go Rams!!
