Sun Devils Wordmark Logo

The Arizona State Sun Devils wordmark logo has been a part of the school’s identity since it was first introduced in 1946. The original design featured an image of a devil’s head surrounded by flames, which is still used today as the official logo for ASU athletics. Throughout its history, the wordmark has gone through several changes to keep up with modern trends and reflect new eras at ASU.

In 1977, the university updated its look with a more streamlined version that removed some of the details from earlier designs while keeping true to its classic aesthetic. This iteration was widely embraced and became synonymous with ASU sports teams during this time period until another update came in 2001 when they released yet another revised version featuring sharper edges and bolder colors than before.

Today's current Arizona State Sun Devils wordmark features a simplified silhouette of Sparky —the mascot—and incorporates elements from previous logos such as shading around his eyes and horns for added detail along with brighter colors like gold or maroon depending on where it appears on uniforms or merchandise items associated with team branding efforts. In addition to being one of college sports' most recognizable marks, this iconic symbol also serves as a reminder that no matter how much things change over time, there are some traditions that will always remain timeless.
