Lumberjacks Wordmark Logo

For nearly a century, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks have been an integral part of Flagstaff’s rich history and culture. The iconic logo has changed over time to reflect the team’s evolution, but its core elements remain unchanged—a symbol of pride for all who call themselves Lumberjacks.

The original Northern Arizona University (NAU) mascot was adopted in 1923 when the school first opened its doors. The lumberjack look was chosen as a representation of Flagstaff's logging industry that had been established since 1876 and continues today with multiple mills operating within city limits. In addition to being used on uniforms and merchandise, this classic image also served as inspiration for NAU's official wordmark logo which debuted in 1954 featuring two crossed axes with “LUMBERJACKS” written across them in bold lettering above a large tree stump illustration – perfect for representing both NAU athletics teams and their connection to local forestry heritage!

Over the years there have been several updates made to this classic design including adding more color options like blue or green along with white accents; changing up font styles; swapping out illustrations such as replacing tree stumps with pine cones or mountain peaks; plus much more! Despite these minor alterations though one thing remains constant: no matter what version is displayed it will always be recognized instantly by any true fan because they know just how important it is not only to represent their beloved university but also to honor those who helped build our great community from day one -the hard-working lumberjacks whose legacy still lives strong here at NAU!
