Rebels Alternate Logo
The Ole Miss Rebels have a long and proud history, dating back to 1848. The school has had several different logos over the years, each one representing something unique about the university. The first logo was introduced in 1895 and featured an image of a Confederate soldier standing with his arms crossed above his head. This symbolized the school's strong Southern heritage and its commitment to defending its values during times of conflict.
In 1936, this logo was replaced by another featuring two intersecting lines forming an "M" shape for Mississippi University (now known as Ole Miss). This new design represented unity among students while also paying homage to their shared pasts as members of both the Confederacy and Union forces during America’s Civil War era.
In 1955, yet another alternate logo emerged: Colonel Reb himself! A cartoon figure dressed in traditional southern garb holding up a cane became synonymous with Ole Miss Athletics for decades before eventually being retired in 2003 due to concerns about racism associated with it at that time period. Today’s official mascot is now Tony The Landshark who is seen cheering on Rebel teams throughout all sporting events across campus!
