Wildcats Alternate Logo
The Abilene Christian Wildcats have a long and storied history in the NCAA, but few people realize they also have an alternate logo. The ACU Wildcats’ alternate logo has undergone several iterations over the years, reflecting the school’s heritage and place in college sports.
This logo's first iteration was introduced in 1956 when Abilene Christian University joined Division I-A athletics as part of the Southland Conference. This version featured a cartoon wildcat wearing sunglasses while sporting an “ACU” monogram on his chest. The colors used were black and gold, with white accents to reveal more details, such as whiskers or claws. This design stayed with ACU until 1984, when it was replaced by another one that incorporated more modern elements into its design, like bolder lines or even some abstract shapes representing movement around them, like waves or stars.
In 1999, yet another variation came about featuring a much simpler look than before; this time using only two colors – blue & orange – along with white accents again to help bring out certain features within it, such as stripes across both sides or even small paw prints at times too! Finally, after many years without any changes (since 1999), last year saw yet another redesign where now, instead, three primary colors are being used: red/black/white combo plus some yellow highlights here & there throughout too!
This new version is said to be inspired by traditional Native American artistry combined with contemporary designs from today's world, so not only does it represent what makes up their culture but also how far they've come since joining NCAA Division I-A back then all those decades ago! With these various logos over time, you can see how much thought goes into creating something unique that truly captures who they are - both on & off the field alike - making sure everyone knows just what team stands behind those iconic Wildcat letters every single time someone sees them displayed proudly somewhere nearby...
