Mountaineers Primary Logo
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have a long and storied history in NCAA sports. Their primary logo is an iconic symbol of the school's athletic program, and it has evolved over time to reflect the spirit of their teams.
In 1979, Appalachian State introduced its first official logo – a simple black-and-white drawing of an Appalachian mountain range with “Appalachian” written across it. This was used until 1992 when the university adopted its current version: a white outline of two mountains with “APPSTATE” written in bold letters at the top and bottom respectively. The colors were changed to match those used by other schools within North Carolina University System (NCUS), which include navy blue, gold/yellow, white & black.
The current design also features three stars representing each branch (Academics/Research; Athletics; Service) that make up the app state's mission statement - "to develop students who will lead purposeful lives as global citizens." This symbolizes how athletics are just one part of many that contribute to making Appalachian State such an outstanding institution for higher learning!
In addition to this main emblem, there are several variations featuring different elements like mascots or logos associated with specific teams or academic departments. These secondary logos help give fans something unique they can identify themselves with while still showing support for their beloved Mountaineers!
