Aggies Alternate Logo
For nearly a century, UC Davis has been the proud home of Aggies from all walks of life. As such, its logo and branding have evolved over time to reflect the changing face of the university. From its founding in 1908 through today, we’ve seen several different iterations of logos that each tell their own story about our beloved school.
UC Davis was founded as an agricultural college in 1908 and adopted its first official logo shortly thereafter – a shield with three stars representing California's three branches: agriculture, mechanics arts, and military science (now known as engineering). This symbol remained unchanged until 1949 when it was replaced by an image depicting two horses pulling a plow alongside text reading “University Farm” – reflecting the school’s focus on agricultural education at that time.
In 1961 this design was updated with modernized typography featuring bolder lettering than before along with some slight modifications to make it look more contemporary; however, this version still kept many elements from previous designs like a shield shape encircling two horses pulling a plow below it. Then In 1972 came another major update which included replacing both horses with one horse inside an oval-shaped silhouette accompanied by script typeface spelling out “UCDavis". This became UC Davis' primary visual identity until 1989 when they decided to switch things up again but keeping many similar features like using script font for the University name while introducing new ones such as adding yellow color into the overall palette plus incorporating the iconic water tower into background imagery behind main icon itself - making sure everyone knows what campus looks like! Finally, after much deliberation process between 2000–2002, the final version emerged featuring a simplified single-horse silhouette against a solid navy blue backdrop alongside a slightly modified typeface emphasizing the importance/significance behind the original UCDavis acronym even further than ever before!
Today we can see how far UC Davis has come since those early days when only a few people knew about existence let alone had any idea what kind of visuals would eventually become synonymous features associated closely with together institution itself - truly an amazing journey indeed worth celebrating every step way!
