Vaqueros Alternate Logo
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros is among the nation's most storied and successful college sports programs. With a long history of winning championships, they have become an iconic symbol for many sports fans nationwide. But what many people may not know is that over their years as a program, UTRGV has had several alternate logos to represent their team spirit and pride.
UTRGV's first alternate logo was created in 1992 when they changed from being known as Pan American University to becoming The University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC). This new logo featured two crossed swords with UTB/TSC written underneath them. It was meant to signify strength and unity among students, faculty, staff members, alumni, and supporters.
In 2014, UTRGV adopted a new look that included an updated version of this original design featuring three stars instead of two swords and "Vaqueros" written beneath it—a nod towards its rich Mexican-American heritage shared by many students on campus today! This modernized version quickly became popular amongst current and former student-athletes who proudly sported it during games or special events held around campus each year.
In 2017, yet another redesign took place, creating what we now recognize today as UTRGV's official Alternate Logo: A fierce bull head emblazoned atop “VAQUEROS” lettering - all set against a bold black background! The bull represents courage while paying homage to its roots within Hispanic culture, making it the perfect choice for any true fan looking to show off his or her school spirit!
Whether you’re watching your favorite team take on opponents at home court or cheering them on from afar – make sure you do so wearing your very own piece sporting one of these timeless designs representing our beloved UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros!
