Skyhawks Wordmark Logo
The University of Tennessee at Martin is home to the Skyhawks, a proud NCAA Division I athletics program. As part of its rich history and tradition, the school has had several different logos over the years. Today we’ll be taking a look back at some of these iconic designs and how they have evolved since their inception in 1968.
The original logo for UT-Martin was designed by former athletic director Leland Bradshaw in 1968 and featured an eagle soaring through clouds with “UTM” written underneath it. This classic design remained unchanged until 1979 when designer Bill McDaniel created a new version that incorporated more detail into the eagle’s wings as well as added color to create contrast between elements on either side of it (red & white). The changes made this logo stand out from other schools' marks while still maintaining its core identity - something that would remain true throughout future iterations up until the present day!
In 1994, graphic artist John Brickey updated both colors used within UTM's mark: replacing red with navy blue & adding yellow accents around certain parts such as eyes or talons which gave them further definition against lighter hues like white/grey found elsewhere on campus signage/apparel items, etc. Additionally, he also changed the font typeface used underneath so there were now two distinct styles being employed depending upon context; serifed block lettering for official purposes while sans serif could appear anywhere else including merchandise lines sold commercially outside university stores, etc...
Finally in 2018 after almost 50 years since its initial creation UT Martin unveiled yet another iteration of their beloved skyhawk mascot which saw subtle typographical alterations along with minor tweaks made towards overall composition giving us today's current version seen prominently all across campus grounds or even online via social media channels like Instagram Twitter Facebook YouTube etc...
While each generation brings forth slight modifications aimed at keeping things fresh innovative modernized yet still recognizable enough not to alienate longtime fans alike one thing remains consistent no matter what: The pride shared amongst everyone associated with University Tennessee Martin will never waiver!
