Colonels Primary Logo
The Eastern Kentucky Colonels have a long and storied history, dating back to the early 1900s. Over the years, their primary logo has gone through several iterations, each one adding to the legacy of this proud school.
The first iteration of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels' primary logo was introduced in 1923 when EKU began using an interlocking "EK" as its official mark. This design featured two white letters on a red background with black outlining and shading for added depth and texture. It served as an iconic symbol for decades until it was eventually retired in 1961 after 38 years of service.
In 1962, EKU unveiled its second primary logo – a shield-shaped crest featuring two crossed swords atop three stars that represented loyalty, honor, and courage respectively; all qualities that embody what it means to be part of The Colonel family at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). This design remained unchanged until 1989 when they updated their look with more modern elements such as color gradients along with bolder typefaces while still keeping true to traditional values associated with being a Colonel student-athlete or fan alike!
In 2005 another update came about which saw them add even more detail including additional shading behind both swords within the crest alongside subtle changes made throughout other parts of this classic emblem’s composition like slightly thicker outlines around everything else too! All these updates were meant not only to bring forth something fresh but also to pay homage to past designs used by The Colonels over time making sure no matter how much things change there will always be something familiar here at EKU’s home away from home - Richmond KY's campus grounds!
Today we can proudly say that our beloved mascot is now officially represented by one unified identity across all platforms thanks largely due in part because those who have come before we had taken steps necessary to ensure continuity between generations so future students could feel justly connected regardless if they're attending classes online or visiting campus itself - GO, COLONELS!!
