Commodores Alternate Logo
The Vanderbilt Commodores have had a long and rich history of alternate logos to go along with their main logo. The first alternate logo was introduced in the mid-1980s when the university decided to create an alternative look for its athletics program. This new design featured a shield with two crossed swords behind it, as well as a starburst at its center and “Vanderbilt” written across the top of it. This design was used until 1998 when another redesign occurred that replaced the crossed swords with three stars arranged in an upside-down triangle formation around the starburst at its center.
In 2006, Vanderbilt unveiled yet another version of their alternate logo which has become one of their most iconic designs yet - featuring Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt himself prominently placed between two banners reading “VU” on either side. As part of this redesign process, they also added several other elements such as stars around his head and laurel leaves surrounding him which gave this particular logotype more depth than any previous versions it had possessed previously.
Today's official secondary mark is still heavily based on Commodore Cornelius' original image from 2006 but has been slightly altered over time by adding additional details like gold accents or changing up some colors here and there; all while keeping true to his overall silhouette that everyone knows so well today! With each iteration comes not only slight changes aesthetically speaking but also serves as a reminder of how far these beloved Commodores have come since first being founded back in 1873!
