Grizzlies Wordmark Logo
The University of Montana Grizzlies have a long and proud history, and their wordmark logo is an integral part of that. The iconic Grizzly head has been used to represent the team since its inception in 1895, but it wasn’t until recently that the university adopted a more modernized version as its official logo.
The first iteration of the wordmark logo was created in 2002 by graphic designer Bill Schorr. It featured a stylized grizzly bear head with “Montana” written beneath it in bold lettering. This design quickly became popular among students and alumni alike, becoming synonymous with school pride across campus and beyond.
In 2013, however, Montana decided to update their look once again by introducing an even more contemporary take on the classic grizzly bear image – this time featuring two interlocking letters: M & G (for both “Montana” and “Grizzlies). The new design was met with enthusiasm from fans who appreciated how clean yet powerful it looked; plus they got to keep their beloved mascot!
While some may still prefer Schorr's original rendition or other variations seen over time - such as those used for special occasions like Homecoming - today's official wordmark remains one of college sports' most recognizable logos around America thanks to its distinctive shape which can be found everywhere from jerseys worn at games all over NCAA Division I schools right down through high school teams too!
