Cougars Wordmark Logo

The Washington State Cougars have a long and storied history, and their wordmark logo is no exception. The original logo was designed in the 1930s by former student Paul Boyer, who drew inspiration from the state flag of Washington. This design featured an interlocking “W” and “S” lettering that has become synonymous with WSU athletics over the years.

In 1997, a new version of this classic logo was unveiled as part of then-athletic director Rick Dickson's rebranding effort for WSU Athletics. This updated look included more modern fonts along with bolder colors to help create an iconic identity for both teams and fans alike. While still maintaining its roots in tradition, this update allowed for greater visibility when used on apparel or other promotional materials due to its larger size compared to previous versions of the wordmark logo.

Today's version features even more vibrant colors than ever before while also keeping true to its original intent from nearly 80 years ago - providing a symbol that stands out among all collegiate logos across America as one uniquely belonging only to Washington State University Athletics!
