Panthers Alternate Logo
For many sports fans, the Eastern Illinois Panthers have become a beloved part of NCAA history. The team has been around since 1899 and is known for its strong athletics program, which includes basketball and football teams that have seen success in recent years. But what about their alternate logo? In this blog post, we’ll take a look at the history of Eastern Illinois’s alternate logos over time.
The first iteration of an official EIU Panther logo was used from 1968 to 1977 and featured two panthers facing each other with “EIU” written between them in bold block letters. This design was replaced by another version featuring only one panther head on top of “EIU” lettering in 1978 until 1994 when it changed again to feature two panther heads side-by-side above the school name written out below them as well as a star symbolizing excellence placed next to it all within an oval border shape surrounding everything together into one cohesive unit.
After 1994, there were several more changes made including adding color elements such as yellow or black outlines along with white text outlining both versions before finally settling on what is now considered today's primary mark: A fierce-looking blue-outlined black Panther head inside an orange circle containing white stars representing excellence radiating outward from behind him while also having “Eastern Illinois University Panthers" written across its circumference completing this iconic representation for our beloved university mascot!
Over the years these different iterations served not only as symbols but also reminders that no matter how much things change or evolve over time some aspects remain constant such as loyalty towards our school spirit which will always be represented through any rendition chosen throughout future generations ahead!
