Longhorns Alternate Logo
The Texas Longhorns have a long and storied history with their iconic logo. The first iteration of the logo, which was used in 1899, featured an orange longhorn steer head facing forward. This design remained largely unchanged until 1947 when it was replaced by the now-iconic “Lone Star” logo featuring a white longhorn silhouette against an orange background and surrounded by four stars representing Texas’s status as part of the United States.
In 1964, another alternate version of this classic design began circulating; this one featured three white stars instead of four around the perimeter with no other changes to its original shape or color scheme. This version has been used on various merchandise throughout the years including hats, shirts, mugs, and even bumper stickers! It is still seen today as one of many official logos for University Athletics teams at UT Austin.
Though there are some variations in terms of size or orientation (such as horizontal versus vertical), all versions feature that same basic outline: A white longhorn silhouette against an orange background surrounded by either three or four stars depending on what year it came from! Regardless though - these designs continue to represent strength and pride for Texans everywhere who proudly declare themselves “Lone Star State” citizens!
