Racers Alternate Logo
The Murray State Racers have a long and storied history in college athletics, dating back to their first season of competition in 1922. As one of the oldest programs in NCAA Division I, the Racers have seen plenty of changes over the years – including several alterations to their iconic logo. From its inception as a simple “M” with two racing stripes on either side, to its current iteration featuring an aggressive-looking horse head inside an oval shape – let’s take a look at how this beloved logo has changed throughout Murray State University's history.
In 1994, after more than 70 years with just minor modifications made here and there (such as changing colors or adding text), MSU unveiled its first major redesign since 1922: The “Racer Horse Head Logo". This new design featured an angry-looking horse head inside an oval shape that was meant to represent speed and power - perfect for representing such fierce competitors! Unfortunately, though, many fans were not pleased with this change; they felt it didn't capture the spirit or essence of what makes up being part of "Racers Nation." In response to these complaints from loyal supporters across campus and beyond, the school decided it was time for another update - which led us into our next era: The Racer Shield Logo!
Unveiled during homecoming festivities held at MSU's CFSB Center arena back in 2011, this version included elements from both past designs but also incorporated some unique touches like stars along each side. It quickly became popular amongst students & alumni alike who appreciated how well it blended old & new together while still remaining true to tradition. While most people enjoyed this fresh take on classic iconography, however, there were still those few diehard traditionalists out there who weren't quite ready for something so different. Luckily though they got exactly what they wanted when yet another redesign came around just 4 short years later: The Classic Racer M!
Drawing inspiration directly from original artwork used way back when Murray State College opened up shop all those decades ago; it features bold lines intersecting each other forming distinct letter shapes that come together seamlessly creating one unified symbol: THE RACER M ! With clean edges & minimalistic styling; this is easily recognizable even by newcomers unfamiliar with team lore making sure everyone knows exactly where you stand whether you're cheering them on courtside or watching games online thousands of miles away! All things considered; it looks like we've finally found our perfect balance.
