Ducks Wordmark Logo

The Oregon Ducks wordmark logo has been a staple of the University of Oregon’s athletics department since its introduction in 2002. The original design was created by Nike co-founder Phil Knight and his wife, Penny, who wanted to create a unique symbol for their beloved alma mater. Since then, the logo has become synonymous with UO Athletics and is widely recognized across college sports as one of the most iconic logos in all of collegiate athletics.

The original design featured an interlocking “UO” set against a yellow background with green trim around it; however, over time modifications have been made to make it more modern and appealing. In 2011, Nike released an updated version that incorporated elements from both traditional Native American art styles as well as modern graphic design techniques such as gradients and drops shadows which gave the wordmark greater depth than before while still maintaining its classic look. This new version became popular among fans almost immediately upon release due to its boldness but also because it paid homage to UO's history through careful use of native imagery throughout various parts of the logo itself such as feathers surrounding each letter or intricate patterns on either side that resemble tribal tattoos found amongst many indigenous peoples living within Oregon state borders today.
