Ragin Cajuns Alternate Logo
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns are a college football team based in Lafayette, Louisiana. The team has been around since 1901 and is currently part of the Sun Belt Conference. Over the years, they have had several alternate logos to represent their unique identity and history.
The first logo used by the Ragin' Cajuns was created in 1951 when they changed their name from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (SLI) to the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). This logo featured a crescent moon with an outline of a fleur-de-lis below it. It was meant to symbolize unity between Acadiana’s French culture and its American traditions as well as honor both nationalities that make up this region – French Creoles & Anglo Americans alike!
In 2003, USL adopted another version that still included elements from its original design but also added some new ones such as an alligator head above the fleur de lis for reference to “Gator Country” where most students come from or live near their time at school here! The colors were also switched up slightly with more vibrant tones like blue instead of greenish hues before then; plus gold stars were added along sides too—altogether creating something even more eye-catching than what we saw back then!
In 2013 yet another update came about when UL Lafayette officially became known simply as "Louisiana" after merging two campuses into one university system; so naturally, there needed to be changes made accordingly on any visual representations associated with them now too—and thus they did just that: incorporating traditional Mardi Gras beads into each lettering while keeping same overall shape/style intact still otherwise… making it look much brighter & festive without sacrificing any recognition factor whatsoever either way though thankfully enough indeed!!
Finally, last year marked yet another change for these beloved mascots: introducing us all to today's current iteration featuring “Ceiling Joe” himself atop cresting waves beneath him - honoring legendary pirate Jean Lafitte who famously helped defend New Orleans against British forces centuries ago during War 1812 period itself actually. All combined together makes perfect sense why these particular designs remain popular among fans young and old alike throughout the statewide area no doubt about it anymore either really!!
