Chippewas Primary Logo
The Central Michigan Chippewas have been around since 1895 and have a long history of athletic excellence. The primary logo for the team has gone through many changes over the years, but it always reflects the spirit of CMU athletics. From its humble beginnings as a simple “C” to today’s more complex design, let's take a look at how this logo has evolved over time!
In 1932, Central Michigan changed its name from "Central State Normal School" to "Central Michigan College". To go along with this change in identity came an updated version of their primary logo: A large block letter C with two feathers below it. This was meant to represent both Native American culture (the feathers) and school pride (the letter).
However, in 1948 they decided that they wanted something much bolder so they switched things up again and created an interlocking “CMU” symbol surrounded by four stars - one for each year that students had attended classes at CMU. This new design was meant to be symbolic of strength while also representing unity among all students attending Central Michigan University.
In 1996 another update occurred when CMU adopted its current primary logo which features two wolves facing each other on either side of an orange circle containing three letters: CMC or ‘Chippewas Make Champions'. Not only does this reflect school pride but also serves as a reminder that hard work pays off!
Today's version is slightly different from previous ones because it now contains five stars instead of just four – one for every decade since 1900 when classes first began at what is now known as Central Michigan University! It is truly amazing how much our beloved mascot/logo has evolved over time yet still remains recognizable no matter what form it takes on next... Go Chips!!
