Bulldogs Alternate Logo
The Yale Bulldogs have been a proud member of the NCAA since 1852 and their logo has been an integral part of their identity for nearly as long. The current Yale Bulldog logo, which features a bulldog wearing a blue collar with white stars, was first introduced in 1934 and is still used today.
However, before this iconic design was adopted by the university there were several alternate logos that were used throughout its history. One such example dates back to 1901 when “Old Eli” made his debut on the football field at Yale Bowl during home games against Harvard University. This particular version featured an anthropomorphic bulldog wearing clothing reminiscent of colonial times while holding two flags – one representing America and another representing England – in each paw; this symbolized both countries’ contributions to forming what would become modern-day America.
In 1923 yet another variation appeared which depicted Old Eli standing atop a shield bearing three stars above his head with the words “Yale University Football Club” written across it; beneath him stood four crossed swords pointing upwards towards heaven signifying strength through unity among players or alumni members alike who had served in World War I just years prior (1914-1918). By 1929 however, these designs had all but disappeared from use due to changing tastes within collegiate athletics leading up until 1934 when we finally see our familiar blue-collar adorned canine take center stage as he continues to do so today!
Overall, it is clear that although some things may change over time others remain constant like our beloved mascot whose presence can be felt not only on campus but also around college sports venues everywhere!
