Mustangs Alternate Logo

The Cal Poly Mustangs have a long and proud history of excellence in athletics, and their iconic logo has been an integral part of that legacy. For more than 50 years, the classic Mustang head logo has been the primary symbol for Cal Poly Athletics. However, over time there have also been several alternate logos used by the school to represent its teams.

In recent years, we've seen two different versions of an alternate "Mustang" logo created specifically for use on uniforms or other apparel items associated with specific sports programs at Cal Poly. The first is a modernized version of the original Mustang head design which features bolder lines and sharper angles to create a more contemporary look that still retains some elements from its predecessor. This version was introduced in 2017 as part of an overall rebranding effort by the Cal Poly Athletics department at that time.

The second variation is known simply as “the shield” due to its unique shape resembling one side view angle shot from military-style armor shields found throughout history books; this design was released shortly after in 2018 to better align with current trends within collegiate athletics branding efforts across all divisions nationwide during this period. Both variations feature colors consistent with those already present within existing university marks (blue & gold) while adding new accents like white outlining along certain edges or details designed around incorporating stars into various areas depending on how they are utilized – allowing these designs versatility when applied across multiple platforms: jerseys/uniforms, hats/caps, promotional materials, etc…

Overall both variations offer great options when it comes to representing our beloved Mustangs - giving fans plenty of choices no matter what type of item they may be looking for!
