Panthers Wordmark Logo

The Georgia State Panthers have a long and proud history of athletic excellence, dating back to the school's inception in 1913. Over the years, their wordmark logo has become synonymous with success on the field and court. As one of only two Division I schools in Georgia without an official mascot, this iconic mark serves as a symbol of pride for both students and alumni alike.

The original logo was designed by Dr. Thomas Hines in 1966 when he became head coach at GSU’s first football team; it featured a stylized panther paw print inside an oval shape with “GSU” written beneath it in bold block letters. This look remained unchanged until 1978 when changes were made to incorporate more modern typography into the design while still keeping its classic elements intact - including replacing “GSU” with just “Panthers” across all sports teams' uniforms (except basketball). These alterations gave rise to what is now known as GSU's primary athletics wordmark: A fierce-looking panther silhouette surrounded by four stars representing each letter from "PANTHERS" set against white or black backgrounds depending on apparel color selection (the latter being used predominantly).

In 2013, The University unveiled yet another version of its beloved wordmark which included minor adjustments such as adding beveled edges around each star along with some subtle shading effects that give off an even more menacing vibe than before! This update also brought forth additional colors like blue/orange gradients or red/black combinations so fans could show support for their favorite teams no matter where they may be located geographically speaking - something many other NCAA institutions don't offer quite yet but are likely working towards soon enough given how popular these types have become over time!
