Eagles Alternate Logo
Boston College Eagles have a long and proud history of having an alternate logo for their athletic teams. Although the primary logo has remained unchanged since its inception in 1883, the school has used several other logos to represent different eras and styles over the years.
The first alternate Boston College Eagle Logo was introduced in 1978 as part of a rebranding effort by then-Athletic Director Bill Flynn. This version featured an eagle with wings spread wide above two crossed swords, symbolizing strength and courage while also providing the visual appeal that could be easily recognized at sporting events or on merchandise items. The design was updated again in 1988 when it became more streamlined with sharper edges around the eagle’s body, making it look more modern than its predecessor while still maintaining familiar elements from past versions, such as the crossed swords below its feet.
In 2013, Boston College unveiled yet another redesign which replaced traditional symbols like swords with new ones such as stars to signify excellence and achievement; this change marked only one part of a larger branding initiative that included changing all team uniforms to feature bolder colors that better represented BC's spirit and identity. Today's current version keeps these same core elements. Still, it adds subtle touches like shading behind each star for added depth - making sure that no matter how many times this beloved emblem is changed over time, fans will always recognize it as belonging solely to their beloved Eagles!
