Trojans Wordmark Logo

The Southern California Trojans have a long and storied history, dating back to 1912. The school's wordmark logo has been an integral part of the team's identity since then. Over the years, it has gone through many changes to reflect the times and trends in college athletics branding.

The original logo was designed by USC student William Hargreaves in 1912 and featured a shield with two swords crossed behind it, along with "Southern California" written across the top half of the shield. This design remained unchanged until 1968 when it was replaced by a more modern version featuring an updated font style for "Southern California," as well as three interlocking letters - SCT - at its center instead of two swords crossing behind a shield. This new logo became known simply as “the SC” among fans and alumni alike due to its simplicity yet powerful symbolism for all that is associated with USC Athletics: strength, tradition, excellence & pride!

In 2018 USC unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic wordmark which features bolder lettering than before along with sharp angles on each side giving off an overall more contemporary look while still maintaining traditional elements such as keeping ‘Trojans’ centered above ‘USC’ just like on previous logos from decades past. With this update, they also included subtle nods toward Los Angeles culture by incorporating colors from both LA Lakers (purple) & Dodgers (blue). It is clear that this new design embodies all aspects associated w/ being part of Trojan Nation – nothing short but greatness!
