Gators Wordmark Logo

The Florida Gators wordmark logo has been a part of the University of Florida’s identity since its inception in 1906. The iconic “Gators” moniker was first used to refer to UF students and alumni, but it wasn't until the mid-1980s that an official Gator logo was created. Since then, there have been several iterations of the famous orange and blue Gator head design seen on everything from hats to jerseys.

The original version featured a stylized alligator head with large eyes, a wide open mouth, and sharp teeth set against an orange background with white trim around its edges. In 1998, this classic design underwent some minor changes such as making the alligator's eyes more rounded instead of oval-shaped; adding two lines on each side for detail; enlarging both ears; changing its jaw line slightly so it appeared more aggressive; as well as adjusting other small details here and there throughout the image. This updated look is still used today by many organizations across campus including athletics teams like football or basketball who proudly wear their beloved mascot's face every game day!

Today marks over 30 years since this beloved symbol made its debut at UF—and while it may have undergone some slight modifications over time—its timeless appeal remains just as strong now as ever before!
