Catamounts Alternate Logo
The Vermont Catamounts have a long and storied history, from 1878 when they first began playing intercollegiate sports. Throughout their years of competition, the Catamounts have had several logos representing their school spirit and pride. Today, we’ll look at alternate logos throughout the team’s history, starting with one of its earliest designs.
In 1923, Vermont unveiled its first official logo, which featured an illustration of two mountain cats in front of a shield with “UVM” written inside it – UVM being short for the University Of Vermont, where the team is based. This logo was used until 1972 when it was replaced by another design featuring an orange cat silhouette against a green background. This version would be used through 1984 before being retired again in favor of something more modern-looking. The following logo was introduced in 1985 and featured three mountains surrounding an orange V, symbolizing both strengths as well as unity amongst players on each team -this design lasted until 1996 when yet another new look to the current primary logo, which features stylized lettering spelling out “Vermont” above two paw prints representing both wildcats (mountain lions) as well as loyalty to one's teammates.
While these are just some examples from throughout time, many other alternate designs were created over decades worth of Catamount athletics, including variations such as adding stars around letters or changing color schemes entirely, so no matter what your preference may be, you can find something that speaks directly to you!
