Cardinals Wordmark Logo
The Incarnate Word Cardinals are one of the most recognizable college sports teams in the country. The iconic wordmark logo has been around since its inception and is a symbol of pride for both students and alumni alike.
The original Incarnate Word Cardinals logo was designed by local San Antonio artist, Richard Soto, in 1978 when the school first opened its doors to students. The design features an ornately detailed cardinal bird perched atop a shield-shaped crest with two crossed swords below it and “Incarnate Word” written across the top. This classic look has remained virtually unchanged over time, only receiving minor tweaks to modernize it slightly throughout its history such as changing from serif fonts to sans-serif ones or adding light shading effects on certain elements within it.
In addition to being used on all official university materials such as letterheads, business cards, etc., this timeless wordmark also appears prominently on team uniforms during athletic events held at UIW's home field - Benson Stadium - along with other NCAA-sanctioned competitions that they participate in each year like football or basketball games against rival schools like Texas State University or UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio).
As you can see, there is no denying how important this particular piece of artwork is for representing not only UIW but also collegiate athletics as a whole; so next time you're cheering your favorite team onto victory make sure you take special notice of their beloved Cardinal mascot standing proudly atop that familiar shield!
