Big Red Wordmark Logo
The Cornell Big Red wordmark logo is a classic symbol of college sports. As one of the oldest NCAA Division I programs, it has been around since the early 1900s and continues to be an iconic representation of collegiate athletics.
Cornell’s first official athletic team was formed in 1868 when they joined the Intercollegiate Football Association (IFA). The original red-and-white striped uniforms were designed by Charles Eames, who had previously created designs for Yale and Harvard. In 1895, these same stripes were used to create what would become known as Cornell's "Big Red" logo - two white stripes on either side with a large red ‘C’ in between them. This design became so popular that it eventually replaced all other logos associated with Cornell Athletics at every level from intercollegiate teams down to intramural clubs – making it one of the most recognizable symbols in college sports today!
The current version of this beloved logo was unveiled during halftime at Homecoming Day festivities back in 1999 after undergoing several revisions over time; however, its basic structure remains largely unchanged from its initial conception almost 120 years ago! It features two wide white lines flanking a larger central “C” which is filled entirely with bold red lettering spelling out “BIG RED". The simple yet effective design conveys strength and pride while also honoring tradition - something that makes this particular wordmark especially unique among other university logos across America!
Today, you can find this timeless icon adorning everything from hats & t-shirts to stadium signage & banners – embodying both school spirit as well as national recognition for excellence within collegiate athletics like no other insignia could ever hope to achieve!
